Easter in York

Hi All,

Gosh I am getting so slack with this aren’t I…. Ok so I’ll post about Easter now and the York Family Reunion today and then hopefully have photos here from my birthday party last weekend by Monday.

Easter in York was wonderful. Each time Nick and I have been to York it’s been more of a relaxed weekend, nothing too touristy except for maybe a visit to the Minster but this time was different. My cousins in York arranged a whole heap of things to keep us busy busy busy and it was great fun.

The trip to York was for 2 reasons, first obviously for Easter and then as the second part of a Dodson family reunion, the first part was happening in Hamilton NZ on the same weekend.

On the Friday after arriving from London we all, Nick and I, Hannah, Vicky, Grace, Tom, Maggie and Curtis all walked in to town and went on an open topped bus tour of York – and yes we all wore our family reunion name tags too. Dinner that night was one of the best roasts I have had since I left home.

Saturday we headed of early to a village called Pickering where we then caught a steam train to Goathland. Goathland station was used in the Harry Potter films as the station for Hogwarts and the train we caught was the same train from the movie too. The village is also used as the set of the British TV series Heartbeat. We then went on a BIG walk over the moors to arrive at a pub where the 12 of us sat down for a big lunch. That night we all collapsed on the couches.
On Sunday we drove to Fountains Abbey for a picnic. I have been to the Abbey before, about 12 years ago and it was just as beautiful as I remembered.

I thought I’d add in this post a photo from the NZ reunion too – hard to believe that that even thought there are so many faces in the photo that still not everyone is there!

A big thanks to the 101 and Heslington Dodson’s for organising such a great weekend for us.

Take care and I’ll write more soon

Love Cherry
