Rome - pics from Day 1

Hey there all, I've found some time to start labeling some photos and thought i'd share some. Firstly of our room which i was really impressed with considering it was less than 20 pounds each a night! The funniest part of the stay was the sweet little italian nonna that ran the hostel with her son (i think). Each time we came out of our room ready for the day she would fuss over us in italian about being cold outside, putting our wallets in our backpacks and leaving our passports in our rooms and all sorts of other things. My italian is ok but no way good enough to be able to reassure her that we would take care, in fact the mornings resembled an odd version of charades until we were safely out the door.

One of my favorite things about visiting a new city is exploring all the streets. Nick and I never seem to worry about getting too lost. We always have a map and after walking around London for nearly a year our navigation skills are not too bad at all.
Around ever corner was another quaint street and i just couldn't help but take photos of nearly all of them. The colours of the buildings are just so beautiful and even on the dreary rainy day we were there the streets were amazing.

The first roman site we saw was the pantheon - very impressive and right next door - a McDonalds... oh well
The inside of the Pantheon was just as spectacular as the outside. The massive concrete poured dome (the biggest in thee world) was remarkable.

From the Pantheon we wandered further and arrived at Piazza Navona were we saw the fountain of the four rivers. It poured with rain while we were there so the usual market stalls were closed up but considering the rain there were still 100's of people about.
On our wandering that day we also saw the spanish steps and the fontana di trevi - but at that stage had no coins that we could throw in. I was a little disappointed with the spanish steps - all the photos i have seen have always had them bathed in sunlight and with flowers lining the stairs but the day we were there the were covered with wet soggy tourist huddling under umbrellas - but really i coped, after all i was in Rome!
That night we ate at a very cute little italian restaurant and i had Saltimbocca which was just delicious!
