Barcelona - Day 4

***I wrote the section below about 2 weeks ago and then never got back to it... Since then i have tried to write the last few days of Barcelona a few times and each time something was against me.. lost connection to the internet or ran out of time but here it goes since i have the afternoon to myself i will give it another go. Nick is working today, it's a sunday but he is off to see a client on Monday and needs to prepare, he's got a terrible hangover tho so i think he'd be doing anything rather than be at work. I've just put Gone with the Wind on in the
background and so here it goes***
Two weeks earlier...
I've found time to write now. Nick and I are home for a change on a friday night, we are both exhaused as it has been a busy week. For me this week has included two trips to the hairdressers... on the first trip i ended up with brown hair and orange roots... not at all what i asked for! Second time was much more sucessful phew... and i'm back to dark brown = D We are also home early as we have to be up at 6.15 to make a 8am bus to bristol for.. wait for it... a comic book convention... hehehe Actually i am really looking forward to it. Not to sure
what to expect but i know there will be a few familiar faces and pints to enjoy so that's a great start.
Barcelona - Day 4 - Montserrat
I started the Montserrat saga/adventure in the last post so here is the good part. The train ride there took about an hour and then we switched to a rack rail train that was to drag us up the mountain. The views were amazing on the 15 min journey to the top.
Back to today...
Once we arrived we went to see the Black Virgin statue in the Basilica. Then we bought a small (stale) loaf of bread and some salami from the supermarket, any other day i would have said it was pitaful meal but well the view and the venue made it just so taste.
After lunch we caught the funincular to Santa Cova. From there we could walk to the Santa Cova chaple, it was a lovely walk along side the mountians with just breathtaking views of the Spanish country side. Along the walk there were 14 different monuments, one for each station of the cross. When we arrived at the chaple we were a little lost for words, there was a whole room full of photos, wedding dresses, helmets, babies clothes and trophies. At first we thought it was a shrine to people who had died but then on closer inspection we realised the they were offerings of thanks for wonderful things that had happened. The room still had a cool chill to it but i was releived that it was not a room full of sad memories.
From there we went back up to Montserrat and then up again to Saint Joan. Unfortunatly by then we were running out of time... so we had to do the 60 min walk in 20 mins.. (i'm sooo not as fit as i should be and during the walk resolved to joining the gym again). We caught the last funincular back down the mountian and the came the exciting bit!! The cable car back down to the station, it was an amazing vue... seems tho Nick is sacared of height so he was not so thrilled with the journey.
That night we had dinner at the restaurant beneath our apartment. The spanish eat much later then i am use to. We arrived for dinner at 9pm and there were still people arriving to eat as we finished our mains at 10.30pm. The restaurant was just fantastic, the food was delicious and the prices were just so cheap, and the decor - it was as chic as any place in have seen in London.
Right so there is the 4th day... hopefully it will not be as long till the next time i write.
Love to you all
