A hot weekend in London

Hey All,

What a big weekend, i'm completely stuffed!Friday night was drinks in Hoxton Sq (East London). I think Hoxton Sq is one of my favourite spots in London, the sq is surrounded by pubs that all serve their beers in plastic so you are free to walk across the road and enjoy your beer in the park. Friday here was HOT and so at 9pm there were over 100 Londoners all sitting in the park enjoying a beer after a long week. It was packed and just something you would never see in Australia. I've taken some photos just so i can try and explain it but really the closest i can get is a big backyard BBQ minus the BBQ. Finally picked ourselves up and managed to catch the last tube home and fall in to bed.
Saturday morning we saw Batman - The beginning and wow was it cool! Given the company I surround myself with over here i've heard lots about this film and all that was expected from it and yep it paid off - Way Cool! Only bummer tho was watching Katie Holmes and thinking she was engaged to Tom Cruise.. oh come on that is ridicules, she's a girl.. and he's a midget (or gay.. well there are stories... not that there is anything wrong with that) Saturday afternoon Nick's parents arrive back from Europe and we spent the afternoon catch up on all the travel stories. I've been inspired to go to Corsica and Croatia.
Sunday was U2 - something i have been waiting for for ages! It was forecast to be 32C on Sunday and so i was not really looking forward to the wait in the heat... but well it paid off! Gates opened at 4 but we arrived at 3.30 and were in 4500 which meant we got special arm bands that got us into the inner circle... as close to the band as you can get. We moved to the shaded side of the stage and again were rewarded as this was the side that Bono spent most of his time on - even sang Beautiful day right in front of me... oh boy.. was that amazing. Ash and another band were support, both were very good but well after standing for 4 hours i was really just hanging for the real show to begin... and when it did... WHOA!

Today is real hot (for London...) 30C and there is no aircon in the office.. blah gross - read in the tube that it will be like this for about 10 days so my fingers are crossed that i can perhaps sweat off the few kgs i've put on = P
Thanks for all your emails i have received - it's wonderful to hear the news from home

Miss you all

Love Cherry xx

Hi Cherry,

Here is an e-mail from Georgie dated 25 Jun 05. Hope you like it...

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the 2005 Wimbledon Lawn Championships. Pimms anyone? (yes please)

The day began early. I mean 4.30am out the front of the famous stadium with sleeping bags in hands, 2 bottles of Pimms and some food. Not sure why we bothered with the food.

We set up camp behind 500 other keen tennis fans with tents set up from the previous night. Waiting in anticipation to see which court we will be allocated. It’s time to relax and watch the sun rise and Pimms anyone? (yes please)

Finally the line began to move slowly, very slowly. It was 10.30 by the time they opened the gates and hundreds of either keen tennis fans or other like me asking "which court is Pat Rafter playing on?" rush into the beautifully manicured stadium running around to see who’s playing who. Unfortunately we didn’t make centre court but we were lucky to get court 2. Row A mind you. Right next to the camera man. Pimms anyone? (yes please)

We found our seats and set up camp for the day. Finished off 4 bowls of THE traditional strawberries and creams and 1 bottle of Pimms anyone? (yes please). As we read the line-up for the day we were very excited to see that game 2 was the famous Venus Williams and the chick from down under Nichole Pratt! Very exciting!

Pimms anyone? (just hand it over)

The game was good. She hit the ball then the other one hit the ball then I fell asleep then some one cheered and I clapped then I went to the toilet then the game was over. But I’m told it was a very good game. Nikki tried her hardest but with the noisy people in row A she may have been distracted. How rude and uncivilized. Pimms? (over here!)

Having woken up at 4am, drinking lots of liquids all day, sitting in the sweltering heat and eating (strawberries and cream count) it was time to get out of here. We all saw what we wanted. Pimms. Back to the pub have a quick shower and off to see the show.

2 days previous one of the regular customers was very generous and gave me, Kristy and her parents tickets to see the Rat Pack at the Savoy Theatre. A quick shower, 30 mins sleep and we were off again to get our second wind for the day.

The show was fantastic. Frank was a class act, Sammy danced all night long and Dean Martin was almost as drunk as I nearly was at the tennis.
Brilliant. All the songs sounded just like the CD, the stage was beautifully set up like the old TV shows they used to perform back in the old days.

Such an amazing London experience all day long. Finally feels like I’m here.

We went for a few more drinks after the show but by 2.30 am it was time to go to bed and let the next day come up and smack me in the face with a beautiful and whole hearted head ache. Pimms anyone? (NO WAY!)

LOT O LOVE GEORGEXOX
