things i've learnt about London
So i've been here almost 2 months and i have noticed a few things that i wanted to share...
- No one packs your bag at the supermarket and it's a race to pack them as fast as the checkout person scans then ( a race i don't think anyone has won before )
- Don't expect to be able to stand up on a bus without holding on - the drivers are all mad!
- Single story buses now look weird to me... there are a few here but they just look so small.
- All sandwiches from shops are premade. I have only ever seen one sandwich bar that is made to order and whoa e x p e n s i v e
- If you've ever eaten a crunchie then you know the honey comb on one side is different than the other, which means you eat all the way down the hard side first and then the soft side - well not here... here the soft honeycomb is in the middle and so my whole system is out of wack.. (Note - pls send crunchies)
- You can't buy Sunsilk products here... i now have mine sent from home (thanks Mum & Dad x) and so does my housemate Damien ( thanks too Mr and Mrs Jones)
- They have adult classical ballet classes here! I'm going to put the ballet pumps back on i think = P
- They LOVE there premade and precooked food... it's impossible to find a lettuce but there are 7 different types of premade salads in Tescos (Mediterranean, classic, French etc)
- There are hardly any bins as they are too tempting for terrorist boomers - which means the city is covered in rubbish!
- Heathrow Terminal 4 tube station is shut for 18 months - In case you are traveling here. But not to worry there is a bus that will take you to Hatton Cross.
- Philadelphia Cream Cheese is better in London than Adelaide... but with out the chicken crimpies to go with it i'm struggling (pls send chicken crimpies)
- There is no such thing as a Yiros and do not be fooled by the Donner Kababas - blah they are YUK and no replacement for the Y I R O S.
- Galaxy Chocolate is my new replacement for Cadburys (which i should note is bad here)
- The Aussie beer they have here is... FOSTERS and most UK'er are shocked to here that NO ONE in Australia drinks it... in fact do we even sell it (!?) Hell they even have ads on telly for it and to be honest they are quite funny ( the English interpretation of 'occa' = P )
- The local Aussie pub serves a drink called a spitfire.. beer vodka and red cordial... Well i've never heard of it so it can hardly be authenic australian! Plus i've been told it's illigal in Australia as is causes agressive behavour....
This weekend has been great fun so far and it's only 6pm on Saturday night!
We went for drinks last night at the Medicine Bar and Kate was able to meet all of Nick's work friends. All top people!
This morning was breakfast in Chiswick in a pub/cafe/restaurant on the river. Great fun and brilliant views. Once we had stuffed ourselves Nick, Kate, Damien and I all headed down to Ravens Court park to shoot some hoops and play with Damien's remote control car. For those that know me well you know i don't 'do' sport but there i was and Nick even tried to teach me to shoot.. ps i suck! But i gave it a go and i was very proud of myself!. Some little kids came and joined in to which was good fun. The two big boys against the two little ones was classic to watch esp when the little tackers stole the ball!
This afternoon I took Kate to Portabello Rd., I wanted to pick up some gifts to send home and Kate was keen to see the markets. They really are very cool and i just love all the antique jewelry.
Oh and anyone know who Kevin Smith is... Have you seen Mallrats or Clerks... Silent Bob? Yep that's him! Well he also directed those and many other films and Nick and I are going to see him in March. He's doing a Q & A session in Piccadilly and i'm really looking forward to it.
Hope you are all well, miss ya all
Cherry x
